Meet Carrick Aland Accountant Renae
Toowoomba Accountant Renae Clapham is still getting used to commuting after moving to a 2,000-acre cotton farm after she wed.
The daily drive is worth it so she can work in a dynamic business environment.
“I love working with software – it makes accounting fun and the add-ons help our clients and make my job rewarding,” says Renae.
Renae started with Carrick Aland in 2015 and has returned after a year’s hiatus. She is certified with Xero and QuickBooks.
“Just coming back and seeing many more clients using Xero and seeing how much they love being in the cloud makes every day so much simpler.”
Renae walked the talk when she onboarded the family farm to Xero.
“We moved our farm onto Xero,” says Renae. “Prior to that only a few family members ever wanted anything to do with the accounting. Now everyone loves using Xero, from logging in on mobiles to check things in real-time to doing payroll where the payslips let our farmhand know how much leave he has up his sleeve.”
Cloud accounting technology is exciting for Renae, from mobile accessibility to intuitive learning and new features being added all the time.
Working alongside Cameron Sorley in Toowoomba, cloud accounting is the predominant tool Renae reaches for when processing tax returns and doing BAS. Being streamlined allows Cameron less time reviewing compliance work and investing more time to help with clients’ businesses.
“Now being on the land myself and being technically minded, I also enjoy working with primary producers as I can relate and zone in on agricultural activity such as spending in particular areas or specific equipment purchases.”
Renae is a fan of Carrick Aland’s approach to IT and work culture.
“Having had time away, I noticed how Carrick Aland has definite goals about moving ahead and being at the forefront of our industry,” says Renae. “Looking to the future and having things to look forward to creates a great culture for us all working together.”
“Our people do make a difference and, besides, the coffee is better in Toowoomba!”
Outside of work Renae is quite the musician who is very comfortable picking up her guitar or tapping out some tunes on her newly acquired piano. She also helps on the farm when it’s busy with planting, irrigating, renovating, landscaping and gardening. 2020 will be a big year for Renae when she commences study for her CPA Australia qualification.
