Refresh ABN details
It is important to keep your Australian business number (ABN) details up to date.
As the risk of natural disasters like bushfire and storms increases at this time of year, check that your details are current and refresh them if needed.
Emergency services and government agencies use ABN details to help identify businesses in affected areas during times of emergency or natural disaster. If your ABN details are not correct then you may risk missing out on help or support during and after the event, including updates, important assistance, or opportunities such as grants. The Australian Business Register (ABR) website has examples of how ABN details are used during a disaster or emergency.
It is your responsibility to maintain your ABN details.
Update your ABN details including:
- authorised contacts
- the physical location of the business
- postal address
- email address
- phone number.
Your ABN details will be most effective if you list your own address and business details, not your accountants’ address as your representative.
If you are no longer in business, you should cancel your ABN so you are not contacted unnecessarily. You can do this online, and changes take effect immediately.
